Noodles are mainly used for upper body strengthening and relaxation. The noodle can be placed in front or behind the upper body, held by the hands with an overhand or underhand grip. With different exercises the participant can vary the position of the hands. the hands ban be directly beside each other in the middle of the noodle (narrow position), shoulder wide or at the ends of the noodle (wide position)
During all hand positions the hand and forearm should be in neutral alignment (stable hand position)
Used as a floatation device behind the upper back, the noodle helps to strengthen stomach, back and leg muscles In this position the noodle also aides in developing coordination.
In deep or shallow water the noodle can be placed below the feet (standing position) to strengthen the leg muscles. In a standing or sitting position the participant will increase upper body stability and coordination while strengthening the trunk muscles.
Pool noodles can be used by anyone who would like to increase their general fitness level. They also have rehabilitation applications and can be used in baby or kid classes.
Aqua fitness beginners should start with exercises to strengthen the upper body or with relaxation. Exercises for coordination and trunk stabilization (sitting or standing on the noodles) should be developed gradually.
